The King’s Lancashire Military Convalescent Hospital at Squires Gate. Known as ‘The Camp’, the hospital was opened on 1st October 1915 on land previously used for the Clifton Park Racecourse (1911-1914). The site is now part of the Squires Gate airport site. Troops were housed in buildings at the camp, officers were billeted in hotels on the promenade

The “Blackburn Hut” on the camp

The hut opened at the Squires Gate military hospital during the first week of November 1915. It was built by W. Eaves & Co and measured 110 feet by 30 feet.
